What a private desert dinner looks like
A dinner on the dunes is set up away from the main camp so that the evening feels private. The setting is usually a low table or a dining table with cushions and rugs, lanterns and candlelight, arranged on a flat stretch of sand. You are driven out to the spot, and the meal is served there rather than in the camp dining area.
Most guests time the experience to begin around dusk. That way you see the last colour of the sunset over the dunes, and by the time the main course arrives the sky has turned dark enough for the first stars to appear.
Romantic dinners and special occasions
The candlelight dinner in Jaisalmer is a favourite for honeymoons, anniversaries, birthdays and proposals. Tell us what you are celebrating and we will discuss the arrangements that are possible on your date, such as flowers, a cake or a particular style of setup. What can be arranged depends on the camp and the season, so we confirm every detail before you book.
If you are staying at Mayara Fort in the Royal Swiss Tent With Private Pool, a dinner on the dunes rounds off a stay planned entirely around privacy. Guests at Vijay Bagh often choose it because the camp’s own evenings are already quiet and the dunes dinner feels like a natural extension.
Menu and dietary needs
Menus vary by camp and season, and we share the current options when you enquire. Vegetarian food is widely available in Jaisalmer, and if you have allergies, a Jain diet or other requirements, let us know when booking so the camp can plan ahead.
Combining dinner with stargazing
Because the dinner takes place away from camp lights, it pairs naturally with stargazing in the Thar Desert. Many guests stay on after dessert to look at the sky. On clear, moonless nights the view is exceptional; around the full moon the stars are fainter but the dunes are lit silver.
Planning and booking
Dinner on the dunes is weather dependent. Strong wind can make an open-air setup uncomfortable, and in that case we will suggest an alternative time or setting. December and January evenings are cold, so bring a warm layer. Share your camp, date and number of guests and we will confirm availability and pricing.
